Some important notes on this site:
- Why are the lessons available online and as a zip file for download?
Most people who want to learn the language want to do it without hurry, and that's good. They can download the lessons and go through them offline. But it might also be interesting to get an impression before downloading, so they're online too.- What does Cyan say about this page?
I have permission from Chris Brandkamp, Cyan, to put this site up. Thast does not make it an official page, of course, but a legal one. (See also at the bottom of this page.)- What about the people who want to learn completely on their own?
They are certainly wrong here. This IS a spoiler page, but many fans need/want this.- Why are there strict rules to put a new word on the list?
(It is necessary to give word, translation, and source.) This is to ensure that nobody can just think up a new word and it appears on the list immediately. This is not done by a 'robot' either, I have to check every word.- Does the title 'Guild of Linguists' mean something special?
No. It just matches the idea of the site. (The D'ni Guild of Linguists would never have been searching words of their own language.) Anyway, the title also shows this page won't make any sense without the help of the fellow Linguists, i.e. interested fans. The symbol above doesn't have a meaning either, it just looks good.- Is this site completely ready now?
The parts that can be accessed are ready. Though, I really hope that YOU ALL will send your suggestions and I can improve the site. If there is enough need, maybe a German translation or a forum for unproofed words and other news could follow.- What about people who don't know English so well?
I am working on a German translation of the lessons and the rest; it will probably be released soon; maybe a French version will follow. The word list is however already available in these two languages.- A note to all Riven-Lysters !
Shorah, you all! Without the great response from the lyst, this page would never have come up!- And one more thing:
This is a "Guild" site, as the name says. Therefore we invite all fellow linguists who have written something interesting about the D'ni language to participate in this site. Send us your essays, they will be published here, as for example, Guildsman Do'mahreh's writing guide.
